Hoodrich DJs
Hoodrich Entertainment is recognized as one of the most prominent urban entertainment companies in the business. Birthed from a dream and a desire to succeed, the Atlanta-based enterprise encompasses a broad range of professional services. From Management and Marketing to Consulting and Talent Booking, Hoodrich is quickly becoming one of the most recognized names in the Southeast and quickly gaining momentum in markets that span the globe. Producing award-winning mixtapes, providing DJ personalities for events, quality control and Artist Development are also among other benefits of retaining Hoodrich Entertainment’s services. Their client roster reads like a Who’s Who list in Hip-Hop, having worked with a number of top-tier talent, including Rocko Da Don, Travis Porter, Plies, Trina, The Game, OutKast, Soulja Boy, Young Jeezy, Jim Jones, Gorilla Zoe, Gucci Mane, Plies and Shawty Lo, to name only a few.
Its proficient team of 15 is comprised of writers, producers and DJ’s, which developed from a business partnership between music mogul Marcus “RIP” Rippy and spin expert DJ Scream. The two equally ambitious individuals influence every business decision of the company. While RIP serves as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is the behind-the-scenes visionary, Chief Operating Officer (COO) DJ Scream uses his rational judgment to bring his partner’s visualization to life. The DJ is also the face of the brand being that he hosts the popular Hoodrich Radio show on Sirius Satellite’s Hip Hop Nation, where he also broadcasts in-studio interviews through his personal website, spins on Hot 107.9 in Atlanta and has his likeness and name stamped on every major Hip-Hop mixtape in the industry.
With an “all work, no play” philosophy, combined with consistency and persistence, the Hoodrich collective has been able to progressively grow, as well as surpass the goals they set in motion 6 years ago. The dynamic duo launched Hoodrich Entertainment in 2005 after reading and re-reading the words found between the pages of Robert Kiyosaki’s book Own Your Own Corporation. “I quickly learned that to be an entrepreneur, you have to be willing to do your work for free and if you love it that much, then you have a chance to be successful with it,” states RIP. Other Business Philosophers that have inspired the two longtime friends to embark on entrepreneurship include Russell Simmons, Steve Riftkind and Jermaine Dupri. They also credit notable names like DJ legend and Radio Personality Greg Street and music executives Johnnie Cabbell and Russell “Block” Spencer, as mentors and major supporters of their movement. Even financial challenges the two men faced at the onset of their professional endeavor couldn’t get in the way of their desire to create something great.
Though some entrepreneurs go into business solely for financial gains, Hoodrich prides itself on providing a platform for new artists to be properly heard and presented on a national level, which often means low pay. However, their skillful ears and eyes, coupled with an intense passion eventually leads to profit. An overwhelmingly high percentage of the up and coming entertainers Hoodrich has taken a personal interest in and co-signed, have gone on to score major label deals. And as a well earned ‘thank you’, the signees usually incorporate Hoodrich’s services into their marketing plans and budgets. This humble yet rare and effective approach of facilitating the dreams of others is what has given Hoodrich a solid, well-respected and winning reputation in the industry.
Some of the company’s finest accomplishments have been DJ Scream’s #1 DJ of the Year title at the 2011 Southern Entertainment Awards (SEA) beating out top names such as DJ Drama, DJ Jelly, DJ Aaries and DJ Bigga Rankin, as well as snagging the Mixtape DJ of the Year in 2009 and 2010. MTV also named DJ Scream as Top DJ of the Year in 2010 and rightfully so, as the Hoodrich brand dominated every corner of the planet. The name has become synonymous with all things hot and heavy on the airwaves, as well as in the clubs and streets.
When the Hoodrich crew isn’t busy grinding, they are in the community supporting charitable causes. They have worked with The Coca-Cola Company and The Heart Truth campaign and partnered with DASANI Water during Earth Week in support of eco-friendly living. Additionally, they have championed the Dallas Austin Foundation for Music Education (DAFME) and the Blessing In The Sky Foundation (BITS), headed by Johnnie and Jayda Cabbell. Both RIP and DJ Scream regularly speak at local YMCA’s and Boys and Girl’s Clubs to empower impressionable young minds. Hoodrich Entertainment is in the process of establishing their own non-profit organization, where their mission will be to implement after-school and weekend credit counseling programs for high school students to help combat the lack of financial education.
With a strong faith in God and a firm family unit as their foundation, Hoodrich Entertainment has only one bottom line and that is helping to improve the lives of others through the gift of music.
